The Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition (FSHN) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign seeks applicants for a 100%, non-tenured Clinical Assistant Professor in Hospitality Management. This is a 9-month position, with a possible 2-month summer appointment based on student enrollment and need.

Our Hospitality Management program is an integral part of our commitment to train the next generation of experts and leaders in the food, nutrition, and hospitality sectors.  

The successful candidate will teach FSHN 145, Intro Hospitality Management, FSHN 340, Food Production and Service (Bevier Café), FSHN 443, Fine Dining Management (Spice Box), and 1 to 2 other courses based on the candidate’s strengths and interests. The incumbent will supervise and mentor undergraduate learning assistants and Dietetic Interns during their rotations through Bevier Café. This position is responsible for the quantity foods operations, which includes supervising staff, overseeing the management and supervision of all aspects of the daily operation related to Bevier Café, managing and supervising all aspects of operation related to the Spice Box, assisting with scheduling and supervision of personnel, maintaining laboratory facilities and monitoring quality control, supervising and overseeing financial operations (cash management, inventory control, budget control and reporting). This position assists the Program Coordinator with academic and career advising of hospitality management students and reports to the Department Head of FSHN.



Required Qualifications:


  • Master’s degree in area related to hospitality management (e.g., food service management, restaurant management, business, dietetics, or closely related field).

  • Experience in food service management and budget control.

  • Teaching or training experience.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work as a team member.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Ability to utilize technology in instruction.



Preferred Qualifications:


  • Three years food service operation experience.

  • Successful teaching experience at accredited four-year institution of higher education.

  • Food Service Sanitation Manager Certified (FSSMC).


Salary Statement: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
